Richard Mille RM015 Perini Navi Cup

In the rarefied atmosphere of super yacht owners, you could describe a Perini Navi Sailing Yacht as a Ferrari of the yacht world. The Perini Navi Cup is a regatta dedicated exclusively to Perini yachts that, for a few intense days, gather to challenge each other in the Mediterranean Sea.

It’s a super rich man’s playground, and to cater to this elite regatta, Swiss watch maker Richard Mille created Richard Mille RM015, the Perini Navi Cup watch. The price tag would buy many people a decent home, so it comfortably qualifies as a watch you probably can’t afford.

Marine Calibre RM015: Richard Mille is the official timekeeper of the Perini Navi Cup, one of the finest and most exclusive regattas in the world. The shape of the crown and case outlines and many other details are inspired by elements found on the superb ocean going vessels designed by Perini Navi.

Perini Navi Maltese Falcon

In particular, the RM 015 Perini Navi Cup draws its inspiration closely from the most exceptional Perini Navi creation, the Maltese Falcon. The 88 metre clipper Maltese Falcon is the largest sailing yacht in the world and with a stiff breeze behind her, Maltese Falcon’s immense DynaRig system powers her to record shattering speeds.

The decks, hull shape, windlass, pulleys, screws and various marine details of this remarkable sailing ship are reflected in numerous structures of the watch.

Richard Mille RM015 Perini Navi Cup caseback

Richard Mille Perini Navi Cup has a tonneau-shaped 18kt gold or white gold case with a suitably impressive 48mm length x 39.3mm width x 13.84mm thickness, this is a watch to flaunt and be noticed.  The transparent caseback enables a clear view of the manual winding tourbillion movement.  8 titanium spline screws hold the case together for better control of torque during assembly.

The watch has a skeletonised dial with white Arabic numerals, tourque indicator at 3 o’clock, function selector between 4 and 5 o’clock, 23 jewel calibre RM015 manual-winding tourbillon movement, a 75 hour power reserve indicator between 1 and 2 o’clock, and is water resistant to 50 metres.

The watch comes in a range of precious metals including titanium, 18k gold or white gold. It was originally designed in 2006, and there are several for sale on the internet, possibly from owners who either wish to upgrade, or who have fallen on lean times. The retail price for the Richard Mille RM015 is $400,000, but with a little diligent internet surfing and an American Express Centurion charge card, you could get the price down to as low as $125,000. But of course, if you are truly in the Perini Navi yachting league, you won’t be looking for a pre-owned model.
