Much as Dads might think they deserve it, the grim reality is not many kids are going to lash out big money for them on Father’s Day. Dads are just dads.

What is it exactly that dads do? They kick you out of the most comfortable armchair just at the most exciting moment of a movie. They make fun of your latest haircut in front of your friends, and can never remember if you’re 15, 16 or 22 but always know the exact moment when you’ve put on half a pound.

There’s also the middle aged crisis dad. The one that takes out a second mortgage to buy the big Harley Fat Boy and all the accompanying leather gear to go tootling along the highway in desperate search of a long lost hairline.

So for all those that want to remember dad without feeling too much of a pinch in the pecuniary department, here is a selection of affordable, quality watches oozing a certain cool factor without managing to look too trendy. They’re presented here in order of increasing generosity.

But if it all seems too much like hard work, there’s always the tried and tested socks and sandals option.
