Charles Pierre Baudelaire, the French poet and famous dandy, once commented that dandies had “no profession other than elegance”.  And as the press release for the Vacheron Constantin Patrimony Contemporaine pocket watch spoke of ‘contemporary dandyism’, I couldn’t help but think of a guy dressed like a character from a Dickens novel, armed with the latest smartphone or tablet computer.

Anyway, I digress.

The Vacheron Constantin Patrimony Contemporaine pocket watch, with its elegant and super stylish design, is really quite something. To some, the idea of carrying a pocket watch in 2013 stretches no further than downloading an app for their iPhone, but watches such as the Bell & Ross PW1 and now this pocket timepiece from VC is proof that the golden age of the  pocketwatch is far from dead.

The watch itself includes all of the style and elegance synonymous with the Patrimony Contemporaine collection, such as its super clean cut dial, applied hour markers and baton shaped hands.

The generous 43mm case is crafted from 18k 5N pink gold and houses Vacheron’s hand wound 4440 movement, which is visible through its sapphire crystal caseback. The watch also includes a power reserve of 65 hours.

Inspired by the world’s first pocket watch, designed by Jean-Marc Vacheron in 1755, the movement also bears the Hallmark of Geneva, a guarantee of  its origin and craftsmanship.

The watch comes on either a brown calf leather cord or pink gold  chain and is housed inside a brown leather pouch which bears the Vacheron Constantin logo.

Limited to just 50 pieces, the Vacheron Constantin Patrimony Contemporaine Pocket Watch is a beautiful piece and if you ever wanted a timepiece to make statement, this could well be it.
