Pilot’s watches have always been incredibly popular, even with those whose only experience of flying is taking the red eye from London to Glasgow for an earnest discussion on the fat content of pork sausages.

The grail watch for many aviation watch enthusiasts is of course a Breitling, but in these difficult times not everyone has a Breitling budget, and even if they do, the Mrs strongly feels the money would be much better spent on a new kitchen. These are the daily realities that bring all thoughts of a high end pilot’s watch back to earth with a bump. But don’t let lack of budget get in the way of sporting a cool and imposing pilot’s watch. Not when there are some high quality Swiss made aviation watches made by Torgoen.

Torgoen was founded by a group of aviation enthusiasts to provide pilots and enthusiasts with watches of uncompromising quality. Each pilot watch is tested under extremes of temperature, dust, humidity, impact and vibration to ensure precision, water resistance and endurance.

The Torgoen line of Flight Computer watches can be used to calculate time, distance and speed equations. It also can perform a variety of calculations from currency conversions to multiplication and division problems. With the watch you can calculate any conversion of linear nature with a constant ratio such as ounces to grams, kilograms to pounds, miles to kilometres.

The watch cases are high grade stainless steel and most models are in a reassuringly chunky 45mm. The watches are powered by Ronda Swiss quartz movements and feature long lasting luminescent hands and indices. The range is huge, starting at T1 and going all the way up to T30, so if you can’t find a competent and good looking pilot’s watch from this collection, you’re probably not that serious about having one.

The striking T07202 yellow steel featured in the main picture is currently on sale at Watchismo for just $349.97. Check out the full range on the Torgoen website.
