We mentioned only yesterday about the inflated cost of Swiss-made watches being partly due to the star power watch brands turn to in order to help give their watches appeal and credibility. Well, you can expect a few dollars to be added to the price tags of various watches following this week’s celebrity saturated festivities in Geneva.

Despite it being movie awards season and considerably warmer in Los Angeles, Hollywood stars flocked to this year’s Salon International de la Haute Horlogerie or SIHH for short. Stars from film, television, sports and media were there. Some to honour contracts, some to launch new watches, others just to see and be seen at a top horology event.

Some of the world’s leading sporting and entertainment stars came together at a special event to celebrate IWC Schaffhausen’s launch of its very handsome new Portofino watch collection (See: IWC unveils new Portofino Collection). The ‘A Night in Portofino’ event brought Cate Blanchett, Kevin Spacey, Matthew Fox, Elle Macpherson and three time Wimbledon winner Boris Becker together.

Around 900 guests attended the Italian themed evening that included an exhibition by photographer Peter Lindbergh. His shoot in the picturesque harbour town of Portofino featured a selection of international friends of the brand including party attendees Cate Blanchett, Kevin Spacey and Elle Macpherson. If you weren’t invited sorry, but you probably aren’t important enough.

The 21st Salon International de la Haute Horlogerie is being held from January 17th and ends tomorrow, January 21st, in Palexpo, Geneva. The private trade fair is a landmark event for the fine watch sector, and at this year’s show 19 watch brands presented their new products including Baume & Mercier, IWC, Cartier and Montblanc.

Other stars were also in Geneva to check out the watches, most notably Gwyneth Paltrow who is working with Baume & Mercier on the launch of a new range of watches. Never let it be said these talented actors and actresses don’t suffer for their art. Pictured above is Gwyneth Paltrow braving Alpine winter temperatures in nothing but a short sleeveless dress just to ensure that you have a quality new Swiss made watch to call your own.
