Patek Philippe Sky Moon Tourbillon Ref 5002

Every couple of weeks we seek out the sexiest, coolest, or simply most unusual timepieces we can find online, in our series called Look Watch We Found!

The Sky Moon Tourbillon Ref. 5002

Most would agree that Patek Philippe’s is the most assured and respected name in Swiss watchmaking. The Sky Moon Tourbillon Ref 5002 is quite simply the most complicated and most costly wristwatch ever produced by Patek Philippe and also the workshop’s first double-face wristwatch. Its movement consists of 686 parts, some of which are microscopically small.

The minute repeater with tourbillon escapement Chime with two “cathedral“ gongs is activated by a slide piece in the case on the front side. This will have been personally tested by Philippe Stern the CEO of Patek Philippe prior to being released for sale.

The masterpiece displays the apparent movements of the stars, the orbit of the moon, the moon phases, as well as the hours and minutes in sidereal time.

The real objective of the Sky Moon Tourbillon was to accommodate the most fascinating complications in the small case of a wristwatch.

There’s a perpetual calendar with a retrograde date display, a minute repeater, a tourbillon, the display of sidereal time, and a depiction of the nocturnal sky with the motion of the stars, the orbit of the moon, and the moon phases. You can see it for yourself on JamesList.
