Montblanc TimeWalker TwinFly Chrono Watch for 2013

Click Tempus first featured the impressive TimeWalker TwinFly Chronograph when it was originally launched back in 2011. This year, Montblanc has released an updated version for 2013.

Showcased at SIHH in January, the new Montblanc Timewalker TwinFly Chronograph follows on nicely from its predecessor. Created with today’s modern globetrotters very much in mind, the timepiece unites two of the most useful of watch complications – a second time zone indicator and a chronograph.

However, both of these functions are presented in somewhat of an unconventional way, with the elapsed seconds hand and the elapsed sixty minutes hand positioned in the centre of the watch. This kind of arrangement was in fact very popular on chronographs fifty or so years ago but for whatever reason almost vanished completely into oblivion.

It is kind of hard to understand why this was the case as the setup certainly offers good readability of the chronograph’s display. Moreover, a large amount of free space is then made available for the watch’s 24hr scale sub dial, which is part of the second time zone display. A small seconds sub dial can then be found at 6 o’clock with a date window found at the position of 3 o’clock.

The second time zone function is a genuinely useful addition to the Montblanc TimeWalker TwinFly Chronograph. The watch’s 24hr sub dial, which is found at 12 o’clock, can be easily adjusted to indicate the hour of any additional time zone, or if you wish, it is also possible to set it to display the time in your permanent location – very handy.

The day/night information which is then indicated on the 24hr scale is accentuated by sunrays or a celestial dome in order to symbolise if it is day or night time.

The watch is powered by an automatic winding mechanical movement – Manufacture Calibre MB LL100, which is the same as featured in the original version. The movement includes 36 jewels and vibrates at a frequency of 28,800vph and has a 72 hour power reserve.

The stainless steel case of the Montblanc Timewalker TwinFly Chronograph measures 43mm in diameter and also includes a domes sapphire crystal that has been treated with an anti-reflective coating.

The watch is then completed with either a linked stainless steel bracelet or a brown alligator leather strap.

The Timewalker TwinFly Chronograph will be available to buy from September 2013 for around $9,250 and can be purchased direct from the Montblanc website.
