The Cuervo y Sobrinos Robusto Day-Date Churchill limited edition watch is a tribute to Sir Winston Churchill, most recently seen waving to James Bond and the Queen as they helicoptered their way to the Olympic Stadium in London.
Churchill was a former client of the Cuervo y Sobrinos boutique in La Habana. It is produced in a limited edition of 200 pieces.
By the late 1940’s the Cuervo y Sobrinos brand had become one of the most important in the Americas. The boutique became an essential port of call for some of the most notable personalities of of the era including Albert Einstein, Ernest Hemingway, Sir Winston Churchill, Clark Gable, Eleonora Duse, and many others.
Cuervo y Sobrinos’s contemporary timepieces remain true to the spirit of the original collections and designs created in the past.
Part of the Robusto collection, the Churchill is as rugged and yet sophisticated as the man it was named after.
The 43mm case features two lateral segments in titanium, adjusting perfectly to the horns, with a brushed finishing. The exclusive crown system is made with a “key” a feature added for durability, but one which also ensures an undisturbed profile face-on.
The ivory dial is decorated with ‘craquelé’ effect which does indeed give it the appearance of cracks upon the dial, but in an appealing way. The day date window is featured above the brand’s traditional crest with a date aperture at 3 o’clock. The double curved sapphire crystal of the case back gives the watch a touch of vintage style with Winston Churchill’s profile engraved upon it.
The watch is powered by the Swiss ETA Calibre 2834-2 with a power reserve of 38 hours and a Caiman crocodile strap completes this charmingly vintage styled watch.
