Following the launch of the limited edition Mille Miglia GMT Chronograph, Swiss watch makers Chopard recently unveiled three new timepieces for its Classic Racing Collection. Each of the new watches feature a COSC certified calibre that has been made in-house at the brands famous Fleurier Ebauches workshop.

The new 41mm Superfast Automatic and 45mm Superfast Chrono and Power Control are significant because they are the first watches from the Racing Collection to feature movements that have been designed, developed and assembled in-house.

Interestingly, Chopard produced over 5,000 in-house movements during 2012, with this number set to increase to 20,000 by 2015, according to the brand’s Co-President.

Taking a closer look at the movements, they do have a great sporty look about them and keep on track with the brand’s racing theme. All three of the new models are available in 18k rose gold, with an all steel version set to be unveiled in April at Baselworld 2013.

The Superfast Automatic and Power Control both have a 60 hour power reserve and feature the in-house Chopard 01.01-M and 01.02M self winding movements. The Chronograph version is fitted with the 03.05-M movement and also has a 60 hour power reserve. All three of the watches beat at a frequency of 28,800vph, offer water resistance up to 100 metres and feature a stylish black dial with luminescent numerals, hour markers and hands.

The new superfast watches are available direct from the Chopard website, with the prices ranging from $22,280 for the Superfast Automatic to $33,190 for the Superfast Chrono. The Superfast Power Control is available for $28,690.

A Few Superfast Guests

The new Superfast watches were presented to the world at the Ascari racetrack in Marbella, Spain. Chopard invited a couple of its brand ambassadors to the launch, most notably eleven time Olympic medallist, Ryan Lochte, as well as six time Le Mans winner and legendary Formula 1 driver Jacky Ickx.

Ickx has of course been an ambassador for Chopard since 1988 after meeting Scheufele at the vintage Mille Miglia car race.

At the 2012 London Olympics, Lochte was part of Team USA and competed in a number of swimming events, winning a total of five medals. Undoubtedly, his personal highlight this summer was out-duelling record breaking Olympian Michael Phelps in the 400m individual medley. Lochte recently made headlines around the world for an incredible act of generosity that saw him give away his World Championship medal to a young Turkish fan. I wonder if he would be as keen to give away his new Chopard Superfast Automatic? Maybe not!
