Rolex-Day-Date-President

What do latter day king of bling Mr. T and modern day king of investing Mr. B – as in Mr. Warren Buffet have in common?

Well, to be honest, not very much, other than the fact that

A) Mr, T. sports a mohawk and Mr. B has taken the scalps of numerous conglomerates and
B) they both favour a Rolex Day Date Presidential Watch.

Warren Buffet and Mr.T are fans of the Rolex Presidential Day Date

Mr. T, the well known ‘A Team’ member and former bodyguard to the stars, and Warren Buffet, the so called ‘Oracle of Omaha’ have both been spotted wearing this popular watch from the Rolex range. But other than a preference for this excellent watch, in character the two are poles apart.

While Mr. T is well known for sporting several items of glittering heavyweight bling, Mr. Buffet, despite his immense wealth, is intensely frugal. His salary at Berkshire Hathaway is quoted at just $100,000, a drop in the ocean compared to his $45 billion net worth.

The President Rolex Day-Date

As for the watch, the Rolex Day-Date has long been synonymous with prestige, power, and exclusivity since its inception. In 1948, the Chairman of Rolex presented President Eisenhower with an 18kt yellow gold Datejust watch, one of the company’s exclusive watches, to celebrate the Allied victory over the Nazis in World War II. However, in 1956, Eisenhower’s watch needed a new bracelet. The new bracelet with a concealed clasp was nicknamed the “President’s bracelet”, but soon the Day-Date watch was also nicknamed the “President”. Most likely, this is because it’s the same year the Day-Date watch was introduced.

Since then the Men’s President watch has routinely adorned the wrists of world leaders, celebrities, and business executives alike. Originally admired for pioneering the Day-Date Function, it is now revered as a symbol of class and distinction.

If a mere President’s watch is not enough there is always the Super President which differs from the traditional Presidents by the addition of diamonds to the bezel, band, and lugs.

Of course Mr. T has opted for the most be-jewelled model on offer, but if Rolex is indeed the king of watches, the Rolex President stands alone as the “king of kings”.

It just so happens that the “king of money” Warren Buffet, the richest man in the world wears a Rolex President too.
