Sir Richard Branson and his Bulova Accutron Limited Edition watch

This watch was released towards the end of last year to celebrate Bulova Accutron’s partnership with its Brand Ambassador, Virgin Boss Sir Richard Branson. Bulova Accutron appointed Sir Richard Branson as its newest ambassador in 2011. He became the face of Bulova Accutron’s “Swiss Made. Self Made” campaign, because it was felt that his entrepreneurial and worldly spirit is a perfect fit for the brand.

Known as the Bulova Accutron Sir Richard Branson Limited Edition Watch, it’s being offered in a controlled production run of just 500 pieces, each numbered on the caseback and accompanied by a Certificate of Authenticity.

The watch was designed in collaboration with the man himself, and every Bulova Accutron Sir Richard Branson includes his signature endorsement etched on the rotor, which is visible through the sapphire crystal on the caseback.

The 46mm watch on an ETA 2893 GMT automatic movement with two independent time zone readings on a single dial. The timepiece has been certified by the Contrôle Officiel Suisse des Chronomètres (COSC) as a chronometer, meeting the highest timekeeping standards.

Crafted in titanium, the watch comes on a black leather strap with a deployment buckle. It features a stylised representation of the world, including lines of latitude and longitude. On the dial perimeter, a city ring, which can be adjusted to the GMT hand for second time-zone selection, features the names of 24 global cities, each corresponding to one of the world’s 24 time zones.

The anodised aluminum hour, minute and second hands are in blue, with the GMT hand in red with a crescent-shaped tip. Released in the fall of 2012, each Bulova Accutron Sir Richard Branson Limited Edition Timepiece is shipped in a specially crafted limited edition presentation case.

The watch is available online for anything from £2,699 to £3,000 or more, and it’s certainly one of the top end offerings from Bulova, a watch company originally founded in Switzerland in 1875, and with its strongest market presence in the USA. Branson is a well known figure in the States as well, as Virgin flies to several key US destinations.
