88 Rue de Rhone BAFTA’s Watch

88 Rue de Rhone BAFTA's watch

It’s de riguer these days that if you throw an awards bash you simply must have an official watch to give away to all the many high profile presenters and key celebrities who will be attending. With this in mind, 88 Rue du Rhone, a sister brand of independent Swiss watch makers Raymond Weil,  has unveiled its specially designed BAFTA watch, having been named a sponsor of the annual film and television awards, which take place this weekend.

The brand has marked its first year as the official watch and timing partner of the BAFTAs with a limited run of 50 rose gold and steel timepieces, with a gent’s and women’s design.

The watches will be gifted to citation readers during the BAFTA weekend. The watch features a decorated caseback, engraved with ‘EE British Academy of Film and Television Arts’ and the BAFTA logo. Rue du Rhone is also set to give away a number of the watches to the public through social media competitions. The men’s BAFTA timepiece has a 42mm rose gold tone case with black dail, date and chronograph with a brown leather strap and 50m water resistance.

The ladies’ BAFTA watch has a smaller 35mm case with 11 diamonds set as indices, Arabic numerals and the number eight picked out to represent the brand’s name.

Gucci Grammy Award watch

Gucci Grammy Awards Watch

Meanwhile, not to be outdone, Gucci has its own specially designed watch which will grace the wrists of many an award winning musician and presenter on Sunday’s Grammy Awards at the Staples Center in Los Angeles. Gucci Timepieces & Jewelry have been selected for the third year in a row as the watch of the Awards. They will release a new, Grammy-branded wristwatch to coincide with the Oscars of the music industry.

The latest edition to the collection offers a variation on Gucci’s interlocking “Double G” motif, which is incorporated into the bezel. The hallmark of this special-edition model is the bold black leather cuff that embraces the wrist. The cuff features the Gucci logo and a gramophone pin – the iconic symbol of The Recording Academy®. The case back is also engraved with the Gucci GRAMMY logo.

Raymond Weil BRITs Award Freelancer by Damien Hirst

We featured this watch a couple of weeks ago. Raymond Weil are also the watch brand behind the 2013 BRITs which will take place at the o2 Arena on February 20th. The crème de la crème of the British music industry will be presented with this specially commissioned Freelancer with a dotted caseback designed by legendary British artist Damien Hirst. The male limited edition silver dial version features a 42mm case made entirely from stainless steel and includes an automatic movement and rose gold hands with a 46 hour power reserve.

And the Oscar goes to… (dramatic pause) the Raymond Weil Freelancer by Damien Hirst. It’s definitely the one to try and win. Now,where’s my tuxedo?
