Artya Blood and bullets

This article was written and contributed by Jonathan Fairfield, a journalist and English teacher based in Thailand

A ghoulish timepiece designed to keep the vampires and werewolves at bay this Halloween! The Werewolf Blood and Bullets from Geneva based watchmaker ArtyA is the latest model in the brands annual Halloween collection.

The creative spark behind this Halloween inspired timepiece is Yvan Arpa, who is arguably unrivalled in creating wild, out of leftfield and distinctive watches. They say there is a fine line between genius and insanity and it will almost certainly be the case that you won’t have seen anything like the Blood and Bullets watch before.

You could say that Arpa has let his imagination run wild with his latest watch design!

Having previously worked with other watch brands such as Romain Jerome, Hubolt and Baume & Mercier, Arpa set out on his own to create the ArtyA, an avant-garde watch brand who specialize in combining traditional Swiss horology with unusual, contemporary art.

Some of their most notable collections include Son of a Gun, which contain an array of bullets on the dial in one form or another, Coupe De Foudre and KISS, which was commission by Gene Simmons from the American rock band of the same name.

Each ArtyA timepiece is unique as they are hand decorated using a range of different techniques including dyes, pigments, forging and collage. The brand is also known for using materials which are not traditionally used in watch making. Experimenting with real elements, including the tanned skin of a toad, calfskin, animal fur and bugs, ArtyA have a growing reputation for creating watches that could be considered unique works of art.

Protected only by his ArtyA Blood and Bullets Watch

Their latest design is no exception to this as the Blood and Bullets watch is said to have been forged from silver bullets during a full moon in Geneva and then engraved with garlic, which is meant to be fatal to werewolves!

The 47mm case features an engraved crosshair on the bezel which houses the automatic Swiss manufactured movement that will help to keep the watch functioning during even the darkest of hours. Just when you thought this watch couldn’t get any scarier, you will also find some victims blood visible on the dial…creepy!

Some of ArtyA’s previous Halloween models have featured skulls, zombies and stuffed spiders. 2012 sees blood and bullets as the watches main theme, which ArtyA hope will protect us from any modern day werewolves.

There is little doubt that the design of this timepiece is fairly unique and it would certainly stand out should you go trick or treating this Halloween! The Blood and Bullets watch is available on the ArtyA website for CHF 3900, which is approximately £2625 or $4212.
